Freeport of Monrovia rolls out automated and biometric access system
The National Port Authority's modernisation programme at the Freeport of Monrovia introduces automated entry gates, biometric and facial recognition checks, and digital access passes.

MONROVIA, Liberia — The National Port Authority (NPA) is completing a major modernisation programme at the Freeport of Monrovia, centred on automated entry and exit gates, electronic access cards, and biometric and facial recognition screening for everyone entering the port.
The new system, which neared completion in late July, replaces manual gate processes with digital access passes and expanded parking facilities. From August, a US$1-per-hour visitor access charge applies, while port employees and operating vehicles receive dedicated credentials. The NPA says the overhaul strengthens security, reduces human interference and improves traffic flow through the port estate.
Ducor Terminals welcomes the upgrade. Disciplined, technology-driven access control at the port perimeter complements our own ISPS-aligned terminal security and supports faster, more predictable gate movements for cargo customers.
